ABOUT

Alan Snelling
I started playing and composing music from the age of 7 with my first musical instrument being the drums, then at 12 the guitar as it was easier to get on a bus with! I sort of picked up the piano along the way.
My first composing projects were back in the 80’s using the technology of the day. Lots of Yamaha DX7 and Roland 106 and then finally getting my hands on the famous Fairlight. By now I had learnt a significant amount from other leading composers of the day because when I wasn’t composing I was recording other peoples scores eg, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, George Martin.
Working with such musical geniuses had taught and influenced me with both orchestra and electronic film music and how combining these could lead to some very interesting ideas.

By the 90’s I was well established in writing songs for animation and drama and producing albums for my own band and other artists.
These days I find I am writing for all different styles which is very exciting and very possible with today’s technology. Whatever I am writing I always step back pretty soon after the birth of the composition and ask myself if this piece of music is working emotionally.
